Tips for ACT! 2.0 Users ----------------------- This document is intended for people who previously used ACT! 2.0 and are upgrading to ACT! 3.0. This document is divided into two sections. The first section lists tips for ACT! 2.0 users who are looking for similar functions in ACT! 3.0. The second section lists the ACT! 2.0 menu commands by their functions and shows the equivalent menu commands in ACT! 3.0. SECTION ONE ----------- The following is a list of tips for ACT! 2.0 users that describe equivalent functions in ACT! 3.0. * In ACT! 2.0, you clicked on an activity in the calendar to go to the linked contact. In ACT! 3.0, select the activity, click the right mouse button, then choose Go To Contact from the shortcut menu. * To create a lookup in ACT! 2.0, you clicked the Lookup button at the bottom of the Calendar or Task List dialog box. In ACT! 3.0, click the Lookup button on the toolbar, or choose the Lookup command from the shortcut menu. * To filter an activity in ACT! 2.0, you made selections directly on the Calendar or Task List dialog box. In ACT! 3.0, click the Filter button on the toolbar, or choose the Filter command from the shortcut menu. * To narrow down the current lookup of contacts in ACT! 2.0, you used the Tag and Untag commands on the Contact List. In ACT! 3.0, use the Omit Selected and Lookup Selected commands to perform the same functions. To use these commands, select the required contacts in the Contact List, click the right mouse button, then choose the command from the shortcut menu. * In ACT! 2.0, you could switch layouts using the View > Layout command. In ACT! 3.0, use the layout drop-down list at the bottom of the Contact window to switch layouts. You can still use F6 to switch to the previous layout. * In ACT! 2.0, you could access additional user fields by switching layouts. In ACT! 3.0, you can still switch layouts, or you can use the tabs at the bottom of the default contact and group layouts to view all your fields. * In ACT! 2.0, you could create general queries using the Lookup > Other command. In ACT! 3.0, use the Lookup > By Example command. * The Mobile Link add-in for ACT! 2.0 provided database synchronization. These functions are now integrated into ACT! 3.0, and are available using the File > Synchronize command. * ACT! 2.0 supported only the ACT! word processor. ACT! 3.0 continues to support the ACT! word processor, and adds support for both Microsoft Word and WordPerfect. * To open the Calendar, Task List, and other views in ACT! 2.0, you clicked a button on the toolbar. In ACT! 3.0, you can move to a different ACT! window by clicking one of the eight buttons in the lower-right corner of the Contact window. * To refresh your list of e-mail messages in ACT! 2.0, you held down the Shift key and clicked the sort arrow. In ACT! 3.0, the Refresh List command is located on the shortcut menu in the E-mail window. Click the right mouse button anywhere in the list of messages, then choose Refresh List from the shortcut menu. * Shortcut keys provide quick access to commands. In ACT! 2.0, the shortcut keys were fixed. In ACT! 3.0, you can modify existing ACT! shortcut keys or add new shortcut keys. Use the Tools > Customize command, then click the Keyboard tab. * To modify the CompuServe session settings in ACT! 2.0, you held down the Shift key while you connected to CompuServe. In ACT! 3.0, the Modify Session Settings command is located on the shortcut menu. Click the right mouse button over the CompuServe Inbox folder, then choose Modify Session Settings from the shortcut menu. * To delete history items in ACT! 2.0, you selected the items in the history list, then clicked the Remove button at the bottom of the screen. In ACT! 3.0, select the history or note you want to delete, click the right mouse button, then choose Delete from the shortcut menu. * The pop-up menus for user fields in ACT! 2.0 are now drop-down lists in ACT! 3.0. Click in a field with a drop-down list (indicated by a drop-down arrow), then choose an entry from the list. You can still use F2 to display the Edit List dialog box. * To customize your user fields in ACT! 2.0, you used the Edit > Field Attributes command. In ACT! 3.0, use the Edit > Define Fields command. * In ACT! 2.0, you could change the attributes of the existing user fields. In ACT! 3.0, you can now add new fields to a contact or group database. First, create a new field using the Edit > Define Fields command. Then add the new field to your layout using the Tools > Design Layouts command. * In ACT! 2.0, you could schedule activities for yourself only. In ACT! 3.0, you can also schedule activities for other users. Use the Scheduling for Another User group box in the Select Contacts dialog box. * In ACT! 2.0, you could use the Lookup commands to find contacts based on a single search criterion. In ACT! 3.0, you can use the Narrow Lookup option in the Lookup dialog box to refine your set of contacts and eliminate contacts who do not match these criteria. * In ACT! 2.0, you could send a fax from the ACT! word processor using the File > Print command. In ACT! 3.0, you can still send a fax using File > Print, or you can send a fax faster using the File > Send > Fax command. If you are using Microsoft Word or WordPerfect, use the File > Send Fax Using ACT! command.
